Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data THE WHATEVER GAME ("the app", "the game") handles, why, and what choices you have. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version. We do not operate player accounts, analytics, or a private player database. Progress is stored on your device and may be synced through Google Play Games if you choose to sign in. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob, and an optional supporter purchase is processed by Google Play. These Google services process data under their own privacy terms. You can control the relevant choices — see Your choices.

1. Who is responsible

This app is published by an independent developer. For any privacy question, correction, or deletion request, contact: benjaminfosskristoffersen@gmail.com. Requests are answered within 30 days.

2. Data the developer collects

None directly. We do not operate our own player accounts, analytics SDK, crash reporter, or player database. The app does not read your contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera, or precise location. Network access is used only for the Google services described below.

3. Data stored on your device

The game saves your progress locally using the WebView's local storage. It is not readable by us:

Best score, the local Hall of Whatever leaderboard, and your three-letter initials
Earned badges, unlocked and equipped skins, and your bits balance
Lifetime play statistics (runs, time played, per-genre mastery, streaks)
Settings such as sound on/off and reduced-flashing mode

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, deletes the local copy. If Google Play Games cloud sync is enabled, a cloud snapshot may remain in your Google account until you remove the game's Play Games data through Google's controls.

3A. Google Play Games and cloud save

On supported Android installations, you may sign in to Google Play Games. Google may process your Play Games player identifier, profile information, achievements and the game-progress snapshot needed to synchronize progress between your devices. We do not receive your password and do not operate a separate account for you. You can play using local progress when Play Games is unavailable.

3B. Optional in-app purchase

If the optional Supporter Pack is available and you choose to buy it, Google Play processes the payment, purchase token, product identifier and transaction status. We do not receive or store your card or bank details. The app checks purchase status only to unlock and restore the cosmetic supporter reward.

4. Advertising

The app is free and is funded by ads served through Google AdMob. Ads appear:

as a banner on menu screens only — never during gameplay;
as an occasional full-screen ad after a run has ended;
as an optional video you may choose to watch to continue a run or claim a daily bonus.

Google, acting as an independent controller for this processing, may collect and use the following to select, deliver, cap, and measure ads, and to detect fraud:

We never receive any of this data in a form that identifies you. We only see aggregate, anonymous earnings and impression totals in the AdMob dashboard.

Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and the AdMob partner list.

5. Your choices

Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland). On first launch you are shown a consent form provided by Google's User Messaging Platform. You may accept or refuse personalised advertising. Refusing does not restrict any part of the game; you will simply see non-personalised ads. You can change your answer at any time from the in-app privacy option.
Reset or delete your advertising ID. Android Settings → Privacy → Ads lets you reset the ID or delete it entirely.
Opt out of personalised ads. Same screen: "Opt out of Ads Personalisation".
Delete everything. Uninstall the app, or Android Settings → Apps → THE WHATEVER GAME → Storage → Clear data. To remove a synced snapshot or Play Games profile data, also use Google Play Games → Settings → Delete Play Games account & data for an individual game.

6. Legal bases (GDPR)

Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — personalised advertising, where consent is required.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — serving non-personalised ads, measuring them, and preventing fraud and abuse.

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. As we hold no personal data ourselves, requests concerning ad data should be directed to Google; we will assist where we can.

7. Children

This app is not directed to children under 13 and is not enrolled in the Designed for Families programme. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ad content is filtered to a teen-appropriate rating: ads rated for mature audiences — alcohol, weapons, sexual content — are blocked. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the ad network, contact us and we will work with Google to have it removed.

8. Data retention and transfers

We retain no player database on our side. Ad, Play Games, cloud-save and purchase data are retained by Google according to its policies and may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States, under Google's applicable transfer safeguards.

9. Security

On-device data is protected by Android's per-app sandbox. Connections to Google Play services use Android and Google's encrypted transport. Do not share access to your Google account if you use cloud save or purchases.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — for example if analytics or a cloud leaderboard is ever added — the date at the top will be updated and the change described in the app's release notes. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
